Last Sunday, my wife and I decided to stroll through our local town of Halle as the day was too beautiful to miss. It was approximately 27 Celsius (low 80’s), the Sun was out, and the church bells were ringing. A sin to not partake in this mass no doubt.
So we begin to stroll to nowhere in particular, when we decided hunger was to be addressed. A quick google search yielded us a known and lovely brunch spot known as “Café Ludwig”. Despite it being quite the walk, we ventured forth. We arrived there a little late for the brunch (nearly noon), so when we ordered the breakfast buffet (only 10 euros!) we found that the selection was not as robust as it typically is. Nevertheless, what was left was quite scrumptious and the environment was truly cozy; an old timey café with mahogany wood and quiet Sunday morning chatter. Sehr schoen (Very nice).

After finishing our brunch, we decided to mosey about the area as it was an area of town we have yet to see. Within this wandering, we discovered a beautiful old, parthenonic museum. The museum of Prehistory, or Landesmusuem fuer Vorgeschichte Halle. The theme espoused on this day was about the Sky Disc of Nebra (Himmels Scheibe von Nebra). For more information on this follow this link: (Wikipedia link).
In addition to Bronze Age Saxony was the Roman age which had some interesting insights about the area which became known as Germania to the Romans. I liked particularly the bit of how the word “German” came to be. (Picture). It essentially states how the Tungrer tribe from across the Rhein came into contact with the Romans, and they called themselves “Germans”. This tribe was apparently composed of very large and very fierce peoples, which turned into a sort of boogey men for the Romans, that it eventually was used to justify military campaigns by Caesar himself. Very interesting.
Also there were many quotes from various Roman sources discussing the Germans. Here was one of my favorites: (Picture of gigantic woman quote) Translation:
After the Roman era, we went further back in time to truly prehistoric times…
After the museum, we moseyed about the nearest park and meandered about until reaching our 4th story apartment (80 steps). Thereafter the day fell into antiquity.
